President of the United States is No Dream

The Economist looks forward to the real campaign: Each party has chosen the best candidate, and now let's hope they'll have a real discussion of issues.

It's a frankly pro-American article, well warranted.
Both candidates have their flaws and their admirable points; the doughty but sometimes cranky old warrior makes a fine contrast with the inspirational but sometimes vaporous young visionary. Voters now have those five months to study them before making up their minds (and The Economist will be doing the same). But, on the face of it, this is the most impressive choice America has had for a very long time.
Democracy at its finest.

FROM CAROL HERMAN

I'm not bad at repeating myself, so I'll do it, again.

Most Americans do not pay attention to politics, until Labor Day. Which ends "summer."

You'll also have two conventions, ahead. So, that, yes. Political types live and breathe this stuff, while everybody else goes on vacation.

The best suggestion to Obama that I've seen? (Glenn Reynolds up at InstaPundit) suggests he chooses Colin Powell to be his veep. (You'd get a "two-fer." And, Colin Powell would bring enough political gravitas to the foreign diplomacy scale.) See if I care?

Yet, I do wonder who McCain will choose. Go figa.
